Wildlife Photography Locations

There are wonderful wildlife photography locations around the world ranging from hot-spots that are busy but you’re shots are almost certain, to remote places where you’ll need good field craft skills.

The needs of a wildlife photographer are far more
demanding than the needs of the wildlife watcher.

For example, a location that is good for bird watching can be hopeless for bird photography. A bird photographer will not only want to see the birds but will need to consider how far away they are, how they are lit by the sun and what is behind them.

In this section you will find reviews of some fantastic wildlife photography locations around the world that are well worth a visit. If you travel any distance to these places please consider offsetting your carbon footprint as described at the end of this page.

Alaska

Brown Bear Fishing
Brown Bear

Alaska wildlife photography is about as good as it gets the nature photographer, From action shots of gigantic whales to tender moments of small fur seal pups to Brown Bears fishing in the river.

Bass Rock is described by Sir David Attenborough as one of the twelve wildlife wonders of the world. It is home to over 150,000 Gannets - the largest single island colony in the world.

Donna Nook Seals, UK

Donna Nook in the UK is home to a thriving colony of gray seals. It is one of Europe's largest and most accessible breeding colonies and one of the few places that they can be so easily photographed.

Florida

For nature photography Florida is a fantastic place, especially for birds. The great thing about Florida bird photography is the sheer number of places that provide great photographic opportunities.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Unfortunately flights are a major contributor to climate change. This is one of the reasons why most of my wildlife photography is local to home. The other reason is that your local knowledge and more frequent visits results in better photos.

If air travel is unavoidable I offset the carbon of the flight. This means that you're donating a small sum to reduce the CO2 of the flight elsewhere. The Climate Care organisation have a carbon calculator that enables you to enter your flights and buy the CO2 offsets.
